Form 1098-T and 3rd Party User


A student may choose to set up a "3rd Party User", often a parent or guardian, who may then view the student's tax information. Before a parent or guardian may begin accessing this information, the student must create a 3rd Party User.

Setting Up a 3rd Party User (Student Only)
  1. 3rd Party Access Creation and Maintenance is available in One.IU here. (Authentication Required)
  2. Click the Start button
  3. Read the FERPA disclosure agreement (only presented the first time you access the page)
  4. Click I accept
  5. Provide a username, first and last names, third party's date of birth, password and email for your user. Also, select a security question and provide the security answer.  password, first and last names for your user.
    Note: the password must be a minimum of 15 characters (32 maximum), contains at leaste one upper case letter, one lower case letter, and one non-letter.
  6. Click the View and Download 1098-T box.
  7. Click Save User.

This new payer will now show up on the 3rd Party Users screen. You must provide the password to the user so s/he can use the unique login to access your account. An e-mail message will be sent to the 3rd Party User containing the username you created.

Updating a 3rd Party User (Student Only)
  1. 3rd Party Access Creation and Maintenance is available in One.IU here. (Authentication Required)
  2. Click the Start button
  3. On the 3rd Party Assignment screen, next to the User ID of the account you wish to update, click Edit
  4. On the next screen, you can:
    • Change the username
    • Change the password
    • Change the first and/or last name
    • Change the third party's date of birth
    • Change the security question and/or answer
    • Change the email address
    • Use the checkboxes to grant or remove access to your information.
      Note: The username is case sensitive. The password must be a minimum of 15 characters (32 maximum), contain at least one upper case letter, one lowercase letter, and one non-letter.
  5. When you are finished editing the account, click Save User. If you changed the username or password, communicate the change to your third-party user.

View 1098-T Statement (3rd Party User)
  1. 3rd Party Access is available in One.IU here.
  2. Click Start
  3. Enter your student's University ID number and your user name and password and click Submit.
  4. Click View and Download 1098-T
  5. Click on PDF for applicable year to view statement and detail transactions
3rd Party User Change Password (3rd Party User)
  1. 3rd Party Access is available in One.IU here.
  2. Read the terms of your access.
  3. Click Start
  4. Enter your student's University ID number and your 3rd Party User username and password
  5. Click Submit
  6. Click Change 3rd Party Password/E-mail
  7. When you have made the necessary changes, click Submit

Please note: the 3rd Party User can change their password as long as they know their current password to log-in. If the 3rd Party User does not remember their password; the student must change the password. The student will need to reset/change the password using the "Updating a 3rd Party User" steps mentioned above.
